In late 2015 the Easton Cowboys made their third football tour of the Palestinian territories. Having previously visited to find an imaginary geography I wanted to return. We arrived in what was termed the knife intifada with attacks on Israeli’s leading to reprisals against Palestinian youths. In our time in Hebron we were told two or three young Palestinian men were being shot each day. The funerals started on the day we left. The mood was dark and the complexities of the situation and our own positioning in it were uncomfortable. We played football and shared friendly competition and experiences whilst wondering what we were doing there and struggling with the futility of our gesture.
